To B, or not to B?

On Wednesday this week our school  was filled with excited and nervous pre-schoolers and parents, as the Bilingual line language tests were held for future 1st graders. There were quite a few who had signed up for the day, so that we organised four different groups for the sessions!

Each session had three teacher involved, and an empty classroom, so differing arrangements influenced the entire school. Some classes had substitute teachers, as their own teachers were involded in the newcomers processes, and some classes had migrated for the day into different classrooms altogether. In addition one stairwell and the front door were off-limits for students for the whole day, so that the young preschoolers could focus on their tasks without any extra noises and interruptions. Even the break-time bells were silenced for the morning.

The sessions in these pre-schooler filled classrooms had tasks in Finnish and English, and with some break-time dancing and singing in between, so our newbie students wouldn't have to sit down for too long at a time. After a round of Baby Shark (...still playing in my ears....) a bit of a shake and stretch, a sip of water, and then onto the next task.

All in all the sessions took about two hours - some more, some less, depending on the group and how ready they were to move on to new tasks.

It was a fun day, and nice to see our potential new students! Soon we'll find out who will be joining us next year, and become part of the Niittykumpu Bilingual family.

And now on to a lovely weekend!
